Report: How Bournemouth feel about losing Antoine Semenyo amid links to Liverpool in January

Antoine Semenyo could be on the move very soon and Liverpool look like they want to be first in the queue.

The Reds spent a lot of money over the summer and it has not really paid off, although that will not stop them from doing the same in the future.

The January transfer window looks like it will be a pivotal time for Liverpool, with this a good chance at getting their season back on track.

One of the names most heavily linked with a mid-season move to Anfield is Bournemouth’s Semenyo, with the Ghanaian having a release clause in his contract that would enable this to happen.

Whether it does or not is another thing, although how Bournemouth are feeling says a lot about what might be yet to come.

Bournemouth fearful that Antoine Semenyo will leave in January

There is no denying that Bournemouth are doing sensational things right now, but with all due respect, clubs like Liverpool are much, much bigger.

This means that it is very hard for them to keep their star players, as proven only this summer, with Semenyo the latest who could move onto pastures new.

And according to The Athletic, Bournemouth feel they might be ‘powerless’ in this situation and will be unable to prevent the winger departing as early as January.

They managed to keep him at the club last summer, although his new deal included a release clause which was perhaps a sign of things to come.

This release clause for this winter is £65m, although it must be activated before a certain date so that Bournemouth have time to find a replacement.

Any club can trigger the clause too, suggesting there could be a big battle for his signature, although the Reds will fancy their chances given that their attack is in need of a bit of a refresh.

Liverpool must get Antoine Semenyo in January if they are to sign him

Although it is still a sizeable fee, £65m is not a bad price at all given that he is one of the most in-form players in the league, with his consistency showing that he might be ready for a step up.

However, if they are serious about bringing him to the club, then they must do so over the winter as he can replace Mohamed Salah while he goes to AFCON.

As well as this, it gives him more time to settle in and be even more prepared for next season, with this perhaps where he becomes Salah’s long-term replacement.

Liverpool certainly need a boost and Semenyo might give them just that, so it will be very interesting to see how this saga unfolds when the January transfer window opens.
