Estevao has spoken glowingly about Carlo Ancelotti’s management of the Brazil national team. The 18-year-old winger scored the first goal in Brazil’s 2-0 win over Senegal on Saturday. This was his sixth goal in his last five games for club and country, and it has made him even more of a star at Stamford Bridge and across the globe.
The Chelsea attacker, who came from Palmeiras in the summer, has quickly become a fan favorite in west London and a key player for Ancelotti with the national team. The Brazil coach has praised Estevao in public and been tough on him in training at times, but the youngster thinks this balance is key to his quick progress. He told Hayters TV:
“The mentality is that he’s trying to push me to be the best I can, and I’m very happy about that. You see when someone likes you, when they not only praise you but also give you a little scolding when needed.
“When it’s time to praise, praise. When it’s time to criticise, criticise. So, I’m very happy for this incredible moment I’m living. It’s about working, improving every day. I know I’ve started to improve. I keep getting better and better here because it’s an honour.”
Estevao is Competing With Pedro Neto at Chelsea
Estevao is currently competing with Pedro Neto for a spot on the right wing at the club level. Neto has been a regular starter in the Premier League, but he had to miss international duty because he hurt his groin in Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Wolves before the break.
Pedro Neto is back in full training at Cobham after being seen with the rest of the team on Monday. He should be ready for the trip to Burnley on Saturday. His return gives Enzo Maresca a much-needed boost and makes it hard for the manager to choose between Neto and the in-form Estevao, who are both pushing hard for a starting spot at Turf Moor.
