Brock Purdy returned to the field Sunday and called the experience especially meaningful because it came in his Arizona hometown. The 49ers quarterback completed 19 of 26 passes for 200 yards and three touchdowns in a 41-22 win over the Cardinals.
Purdy had missed six games while rehabbing a turf toe injury sustained earlier in the season and said returning at State Farm Stadium added an emotional layer to the comeback. He credited the team’s medical staff and his own preparation at practice for restoring his confidence and enabling him to move without hesitation during the game.

San Francisco’s offense clicked around Purdy, producing eight scoring drives and capitalising on Arizona miscues, including three turnovers and a franchise-record 17 penalties by the Cardinals. Purdy connected on several big plays, notably a 30-yard touchdown pass to George Kittle that helped him settle into a rhythm early and establish momentum for the unit.
Coach Kyle Shanahan praised Purdy’s command of the offense in his first game back, saying the quarterback made sound decisions and executed the game plan. Teammates also noted the boost his presence provided, with veteran playmakers pointing to Purdy’s leadership and timing as catalysts for the team’s balanced attack.
Purdy described the return as a test of both body and mind, work he said was handled one day at a time through rehab and practice reps. He added that being around family and friends in his hometown amplified the occasion but that his focus remained on performing and helping the 49ers sustain a late‑season push.

Purdy’s successful return offered a timely jolt for the 49ers and reassurance about his availability going forward. The team will monitor his toe, but for one night in Arizona, Purdy reminded teammates and fans why he is the starter.
