Opinion: Everton have secret weapon to help them in potential talks to sign Troy Parrott

Everton are keeping tabs on Republic of Ireland hero Troy Parrott ahead of the winter transfer window, and they could have a secret weapon to help them in any forthcoming talks.

David Moyes had scouts watching Troy Parrott last week as he netted two goals against Portugal and a dramatic hat-trick against Hungary to send Ireland to the World Cup play-offs.

Parrott has recently opened up about his struggles playing in England, having found a new home in Holland with AZ Alkmaar.

But a return to the Premier League feels inevitable as he’s been prolific with his club and country this season.

Is Troy Parrott the perfect January signing for Everton?

With that said, Everton actually have a secret weapon to help them in any forthcoming talks to sign the young striker.

Seamus Coleman and Jake O’Brien could help Everton sign Troy Parrott

Seamus Coleman and Jake O’Brien have a relationship with Parrott as they play together on the international stage with Ireland.

That means Everton have a direct line of communication to their January target, so Coleman and O’Brien could help in negotiations.

The Toffees duo can convince Parrott to make the switch to Merseyside ahead of any other potential competition.

Coleman is a huge admirer of Parrott and recently labelled him ‘incredible’.

“Like us all, he’s had ups and downs in his Ireland career, but the way he’s playing at club level and to come in and play like he did was incredible,” the Toffees captain said last week.

“Everyone was so happy for him and the team but Troy deserved that moment, and hopefully that now will kick him on again.”

Moyes and the club’s recruitment team will likely tap into Coleman’s knowledge of the 23-year-old striker and clearly, he will give the seal of approval.

Troy Parrott’s remarkable 2025/26 stats

Parrott has been prolific on the international stage this season, netting five goals in just four outings for Ireland.

The former Tottenham Hotspur forward has been deadly for Alkmaar, too, scoring 13 goals in 14 games, including seven in Europe.

After his hat-trick booked Ireland a spot in the World Cup playoffs, Dublin Airport jokingly renamed itself “Troy Parrott International Airport” 🦜😂

Parrott’s underlying data is also really encouraging, as according to FBref data, he ranks in the top 21 per cent for shot-creating actions per 90 compared to his positional peers across Europe.

The 23-year-old sits in the top 18 per cent for touches in the penalty area, evincing his fox-in-the-box approach.

That profile of a striker is different to Thierno Barry and Beto, so he’d be a really clever addition this winter.
