FC Barcelona continued to step up their preparations ahead of the team’s return to the Spotify Camp Nou later this weekend when they take on Athletic Club.
The big news from the session today was the return of Raphinha, who was involved in part of the group training.
Fellow injured star Pedri was also expected to take part in group training. But, in the end, he did not participate, with Barcelona not wanting to take any risks with him.
More to Pedri’s absence
However, according to Javi Miguel of AS, Pedri’s absence was because he was dealing with a bout of gastroenteritis.
Indeed, as per the journalist, the plan was for the midfield superstar to step onto the pitch with the rest of the group and test himself in parts of the training session.
However, a sudden bout of gastroenteritis meant that the Spanish international was unable to do so.

Given the development, it might be prudent not to rush Pedri back for the weekend encounter against Athletic Club.
The midfielder could receive his medical clearance next week, in time for the all-important UEFA Champions League encounter against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Pedri suffered a hamstring injury last month, late on in the first El Clasico of the season, which the Blaugrana ended up losing at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Previous reports had even suggested that the superstar’s return could be delayed until December. But things are progressing well and fans could see him back in action as early as next week against Chelsea.
