Matt Law Reveals What He's Heard As Chelsea Plot Transfer Hijack

Chelsea are not expected to hijack Lyon’s move for Real Madrid forward Endrick, according to The Telegraph reporter Matt Law.

Reports in the Spanish media claimed that the Blues had entered the race to snap up the Brazilian international, but speaking on the London Is Blue podcast, Law played down the speculation:

“I’ve seen the rumours, but I’ve been told there’s nothing to them. Best to ignore it.”

Endrick is set to leave Real on loan in January as he seeks to get more first-team football ahead of the World Cup.

Chelsea would have wanted a purchase clause

It has been suggested that Endrick and his entourage have specifically requested that a loan move should NOT include an option to buy.

While Endrick wants game time to give himself the best possible chance of being called up by Brazil boss Carlo Ancelotti, he still has ambitions of becoming a regular starter at Real in the future.

The absence of an option to sign the teenager on a permanent basis would likely have put off Enzo Maresca’s side and several other Premier League teams from entering negotiations.

Will alternatives to Endrick be looked at?

Some fans believe that head coach Enzo Maresca is lacking options up front. Joao Pedro provided able cover while Liam Delap was out injured but the 24-year-old is not an out-and-out number nine.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea’s recruitment department are open to strengthening that position in the New Year.

The likes of Porto’s Samu Aghehowa, Juventus’s Jonathan David and Levante’s Karl Etta Eyong have been mentioned as potential candidates but there are no real concrete links. You can read our post here as we discuss whether the Blues should bring Ivan Toney back from Saudi Arabia.
