Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a significant left wrist injury after he was sacked and landed on his hand awkwardly during the team’s Week 11 win. After being pulled from the game, it was revealed that he suffered a “small” fracture, and now the team has revealed whether surgery will be necessary.
The Steelers pulled off a huge win against the Cincinnati Bengals, dropping 34 points in a very lopsided affair. After Rodgers suffered the injury, Mason Rudolph came into the game and helped Pittsburgh retain its huge lead.
Following the game, it was revealed that Rodgers did suffer a significant wrist injury, but not one that would keep him sidelined. Now, the team has revealed if surgery will be needed and how long he may be out for.
Per Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport, Rodgers will not need surgery, but his status for Week 12 remains unclear.
“Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers underwent further tests Monday that confirmed he won't need surgery on his fractured left wrist, sources tell me and @RapSheet. Rodgers is pushing to play Sunday at Chicago. But doctors must clear him and his status moving forward is TBD.”
The good news is that Rodgers wilk not need surgery, which would have sidelined him for multiple weeks, potentially. Even though the injury occurred on his non-throwing hand, surgery will always lead to multiple weeks of not being able to play.
The other aspect of this report indicates that doctors must clear the Steelers quarterback for him to play against the Chicago Bears.
Should Rodgers not be able to play, or rather, the training staff recommends he take a week off, Rudolph would step into the starting role. The longtime veteran has shown he can lead the team, and has done so in the past.
Rodgers is not getting any younger, and injuries like this could be even worse, considering he is 41 years old. It does sound like he may still suit up against the Bears.
