Liverpool are determined to tie Ibrahima Konate down to a long term contract and there has been an update on the stand-off.
Despite Richard Hughes earning a lot of plaudits for some of his transfer business with Liverpool, every season seems to see a series of drawn out contract sagas.
Liverpool make final contract offer to Ibrahima Konate
Konate captained France this week and spoke about hoping to have news of his future soon with Sky Sports’ Sacha Tovolieri claiming that Liverpool are set to call an end to negotiations if the most recent round of talks prove to be unsuccessful. Tovolieri reported, via skysport.ch, that Liverpool have presented the 26-year old with a “final offer” to the player that the club feels is “very generous”.
With Konate said to be initially demanding £200,000 per week, it isn’t unreasonable to assume that something similar isn’t on the table after those talks appeared to break down. The Belgian journalist also claimed that Konate “always wanted” to play for the Spanish giants and that there could be an announcement on his decision “expected in the coming weeks”.
There is something of a centre-half transfer merry-go-round in full flow with Marc Guehi, Dayot Upamecano and Ibrahima Konate all seeming to have their futures linked with each other. Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid all have experienced centre-halves all out of contract at the end of the season and the three players named have been linked with each club or with extending their current deals.
Fabrizio Romano on Liverpool linked defender
One player who has seen premature reports about his decision is Upamecano who Liverpool have also been linked with and who, according to Fabrizio Romano, hasn’t signed for Real Madrid or Paris Saint Germain, despite speculation suggesting otherwise: “Yeah, rumors coming from France about a variable agreement done between the Upamecano and Real Madrid, but my information is that at the moment, Upamecano has not agreed terms with any club. So everything is absolutely open.
“There is interest from Paris Saint Germain. There is interest from Real Madrid as well, interest from England. So many clubs have called for Upamecano, but don't forget Bayern. Bayern are still fighting to extend this contract. Bayern will meet with these agents again very soon to keep discussing details of this new contract. There have been already three meetings in the recent months between Upamecano agents and Bayern, and this conversation will continue. So Bayern are really trying their best.
“Bayern are involving Vincent Kompany in the conversation. Obviously, doing fantastic as a manager, but he was a great centre back, and Bayern believe one of the reasons why Upamecano started performing well is also that he had a very good connection immediately with Vincent Kompany. So they are trying their best financially and on a technical point of view in terms of selling the project to give Upamecano what he wants. So there is an active conversation. Let's see. Real Madrid are there for sure.”
