The Green Bay Packers needed their quarterback to lead the way in Week 11. Jordan Love was up for the task, and he delivered when it mattered most.

With running back Josh Jacobs leaving the game with a knee injury and his pass catchers dropping passes, Love overcame adversity to secure a win against the New York Giants. That’s why Connor McGuinness of Pro Football Focus gave the Packers star major praise for a career-high performance.

“Offensive Player of the Week: QB Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers,” McGuinness wrote. “The Packers signal-caller earned a career-high 93.1 PFF grade in the win over the Giants despite a modest box score. He finished 13-for-24 for 174 yards and two touchdowns, but with four incompletions caused by drops, one on a throwaway and two more from being hit as he threw, his 85.0% adjusted completion rate was 31.8% higher than his actual mark.”

Love didn’t need to put up impressive numbers to have a great game. He even left for seven plays after taking a big hit on his non-throwing shoulder, but he gutted it out and was able to get back on the field. That’s the type of competitor he is.

The Packers have failed to establish the run all season, and not because head coach Matt LaFleur hasn’t tried. Yet, the offense has been much more efficient whenever he’s given Love a longer leash and called plays to help the vertical passing game.

Love is a gunslinger, and the staff can’t keep holding him back by having him throw screen passes and hand the ball off so often. Even if he’s going to turn the ball over, most of his interceptions come from high-reward possibilities.

The Packers needed this win after consecutive losses. With their quarterback showing they can trust him, they should put the ball in his hands more often going forward.
