Steelers’ Mike Tomlin reveals concerning news on Aaron Rodgers

The Pittsburgh Steelers secured a 34-12 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday but suffered a major setback in the process. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers exited late in the second quarter after injuring his left wrist, leaving the game just before halftime. Backup Mason Rudolph stepped in and helped the Steelers seal the win.

Rodgers was initially reported to have a hand injury, but further evaluation revealed a “slight break” in his left wrist. He did not return to the game, and early signs raised concerns about how long he might be sidelined.

Mike Tomlin’s update on Rodgers’ wrist and Week 12 status

On Tuesday, head coach Mike Tomlin addressed Rodgers’ status and offered some positive news.

“Aaron won’t need surgery,” Tomlin confirmed, explaining that the focus now is on “bracing it and securing it for his comfort and safety.” While the injury won’t require an operation, Rodgers’ availability for Week 12 against the Chicago Bears remains uncertain and a possibility.

“Really, it’s about how functional he is,” Tomlin said per insider Tom Pelissero. “Friday will be a big day.” The team plans to see how well Rodgers can move and throw with the wrist braced before making a final decision. Doctors must also clear him before he can take the field.

Rodgers, known for his toughness, is reportedly pushing to play Sunday. “That doesn’t seem to be an issue with Aaron,” Tomlin added when asked about his pain tolerance. The 41-year-old veteran has a strong track record against the Bears, 25 wins in 30 career games, and even joked earlier this year that he “owns” Chicago.

If Rodgers can’t go, Rudolph will start in his place, marking his 14th career start. The Steelers, currently fighting for playoff contention, still have seven games remaining, including three key AFC North matchups. While Pittsburgh can be confident in Rudolph’s reliability, they’ll be hoping Rodgers’ wrist heals in time for another Soldier Field showdown this Sunday.
