Liverpool have been linked with a move for Antoine Semenyo since last season and now know how much it would cost to sign him.

Liverpool’s new signings have taken some time to settle in as Richard Hughes looks to next season and what signings could be low risk.

Top of that list would appear to be Antoine Semenyo who Bournemouth are fighting a losing battle to keep hold of after persuading the Ghana winger to sign a new deal in the summer. The 25-year old has a growing collection of admirers with Arne Slot still reported to be a fan.

Liverpool learn Antoine Semenyo release clause timeline

According to Ornstein: “Suitors were told during the previous market that the fee required to secure Semenyo was around £70million ($92.2m), whereas the sale price for the winter is now formally set at £65m. It must be activated by a specific date, which would give Bournemouth a couple of weeks to replace their best player, and is available to any team.

“The Ghana international has recently been linked to Liverpool, Manchester City and Spurs — however if Bournemouth manage to fend off admirers in the coming months, the mechanism will again be available once the subsequent transfer window opens, except at an even lower figure.”

The decision that Liverpool have now is whether or to offer the fee that would guarantee talks with Semenyo or gamble on waiting until the summer to pay the cheaper fee. If Richard Hughes is looking for low risk signings, securing the signature of a proven Premier League operator is as low risk as they come.

Should Liverpool make a January move for Semenyo?

Signing Semenyo would allow Slot to rotate Salah more naturally, it would also give him the opportunity to play the former on the left-hand side too. For Bournemouth, the 25-year old doesn’t quite have a free role, but he is allowed to swap flanks and drift between the lines. There is a down side to this in that Slot already has a lot of options on the left but isn’t quite sure what combination to pick.

Liverpool know that, if they wanted one, a cheque for £100m from the Saudi Pro League would be on the table for Salah. Semenyo might not be of the same level of the Egyptian King, but he is a consistent replacement and has shown that he can score goals and create chances for others. Michael Olise would might be the better player, he would also have the bigger price tag. A lesson should have been learned with the failed move for Marc Guehi, sometimes trying to save a bit of money isn’t always the right option.
