Football fans are always excited during the transfer window, and the winter window will open on Thursday, January 1, 2026, for Premier League and English Football League clubs.

It will run for a month before closing at 19:00GMT on Monday, February 2. The deadline falls in February because January 31 lands on a weekend.

In the Women’s Super League, the winter transfer window will be open from Friday, January 2, 2026, until Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

Premier League clubs set a new spending record in the summer transfer window, splashing out £3.087bn, with Liverpool’s £125m acquisition of Alexander Isak breaking the British transfer record.

The league spent more on transfers than the Bundesliga, La Liga, Ligue 1, and Serie A combined.

In the Women’s Super League, Katie Startup has returned to Manchester City following the conclusion of her emergency loan spell at Everton, the club have officially confirmed.

The City goalkeeper joined the Merseyside club at the end of September on a short-term deal.

Startup made a permanent switch to the Joie Stadium in the summer after signing from fellow WSL side Brighton & Hove Albion.

She began her senior career at Charlton Athletic before moving to Brighton in 2020, and she also enjoyed temporary spells back at Charlton and at Liverpool prior to joining City.

During her time at Charlton Athletic, she came close to promotion to the Women’s Super League in the 2018–19 season, finishing third in the table.

Startup has also represented England at U15, U17, and U19 levels.

Everton Women released a statement claiming: “Katie Startup has returned to Manchester City following her emergency loan to the Club.

“Everyone at Everton thanks Katie for her efforts and wishes her the best for the future.”
