Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders made his regular season debut in Sunday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens. While the loss was disappointing, an even worse experience awaited him off the field.
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported Monday that thieves had broken into Sanders’ home while he was in Pittsburgh. There is no immediate word on what, if anything, was taken from his home. Florio added that there are currently no suspects in the incident.
Sanders is not the first athlete to experience a break-in while playing on the road. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes experienced a break-in at his house, along with his teammate, tight end Travis Kelce, and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
The Burrow burglary was eventually solved. On Dec. 9, 2024, burglars broke into Burrow’s home while his girlfriend, Olivia Ponton, was inside. The thieves took $300,000 worth of items, including necklaces with pendants that had Burrow’s jersey number on them. Burrow was not home at the time because he was playing on “Monday Night Football” against the Dallas Cowboys.
Four men from Chile who are allegedly members of a South American theft ring were arrested for their roles in the burglary. One of the men attempted to delete pictures from the crime scene, including photos of the suspects posing with Burrow’s stolen items.
Sanders will try not to make this a distraction, especially since he could be the starting quarterback Sunday, Nov. 23, when the Browns travel to Nevada to play the Las Vegas Raiders. Sanders could work with the first-team offense because Dillon Gabriel is in concussion protocol.
