There have been rumours recently that Wolves are interested in Kalvin Phillips – and journalist Liam Keen has shared what he knows of the situation.
Wolves are expected to be busy in January, having had a shocking start to the new season.
Wolves have taken just two points from their first 11 Premier League games, and recently fired Vitor Pereira just weeks after handing him a new contract.
Rob Edwards is the man tasked with pulling Wolves out of trouble.
Edwards returned to the club last week, after Wolves paid compensation to Middlesbrough. There has been anger from Boro and their fans about Wolves’ approach, but what’s done is done and the Molineux faithful are hopeful he can instigate a turnaround.
In January, Wolves are sure to make some additions.
And this week, there have been some suggestions that Kalvin Phillips might be a player of interest.
Now, journalist Liam Keen has provided an update.
Wolves have definitely been interested in Kalvin Phillips

Kalvin Phillips was once one of the best players in the England national team. That was evidenced when he won the men’s player of the year award in the 2020/21 season.

But everything changed for Phillips when he joined Manchester City.
The midfielder just couldn’t get in the team over Rodri, and then had loan spells with West Ham United followed by Ipswich Town.
Phillips is back with City now, and actually recently made a cameo appearance against Swansea City in the Carabao Cup.
But the feeling is he won’t be at the club much longer, and then it was suggested there was interest from Wolves.
Speaking about the claims on the latest E&S podcast, Liam Keen said: “I can confirm that he was a target, or considered a target, in the summer.
But there was a decision not to go for him in the end. I don’t know exactly whether they’re going to return for him or not. It will be interesting to see whether that’s an area they go for. It depends really on what Rob thinks they need for the squad.
Phillips isn’t the kind of midfielder Wolves need
The Phillips links have been interesting, because at the moment, arguably, he is not the kind of midfielder Wolves need.
He is very much a midfielder who plays deep, preferring to try and dictate the tempo of games – a bit like what Andre does for Wolves.
Which position do Wolves need to prioritise in January?
Currently, Wolves are really lacking creativity, and players with ingenuity.
Phillips would be a homegrown option, but if Wolves are going to try and sign a midfielder then surely it needs to be someone with either ball-carrying or playmaking qualities. Phillips doesn’t really have those things, and is more a a recycler.
With Phillips as well, Wolves would surely be taking a real risk going for someone who hasn’t been playing much football.
