The Green Bay Packers have one of the best defenses in the game. On paper, they can also have one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL.
What they don’t have, unfortunately, is reliable special teams. They’ve struggled with every aspect of this unit, and analyst Daire Carragher revealed an “unbelievable” stat about the Packers’ punt returners.
There have been 45 players who have returned three or more punts this season, and Green Bay has the three worst in terms of yards per return.
Romeo Doubs ranks 43rd at 5.8 yards per return. He’s followed by Matthew Golden (4.7) and Keisean Nixon (1.0).
Most unbelievable stat I’ve unearthed all year:
45 NFL players have returned 3 or more punts this season. In yards per attempt:
43rd – Romeo Doubs (5.8)
44th – Matthew Golden (4.7)
45th – Keisean Nixon (1.0)

This is yet another indictment of coordinator Rich Bisaccia’s work in charge of this unit. The Packers rank near the bottom of every statistical category in special teams since he arrived, and there may be no logical way to justify bringing him back next season.
A true Super Bowl contender dominates all three facets of the game, but the Packers are getting virtually nothing from special teams. If anything, they’re usually holding them back.
There’s simply no excuse for a team with so much talent and speedsters to be so poor at punt returns. Doubs, Golden and Nixon are explosive and can turn the corner, yet these numbers only show how they may not be in a position to succeed.
They will try to improve in Week 12 at home against the rival Minnesota Vikings.
