The Cleveland Browns have announced moves including placing corner Dom Jones on injured reserve and waiving wide receiver Kaden Davis. The Browns are expected to sign corner Deangelo Ross from the practice squad of the Houston Texans. His agency, JL Sports, announced the move on social media, though the Browns have not announced it as official. The Browns would still have one open roster spot.
Ross has seen action in 29 career games, including three starts. The 29-year old corner saw action in three games with the New England Patriots in 2021. Then he saw action in 2023, 2024 and this season with the Houston Texans. In 2023 and 2024, he saw action in a combined 23 games including two of his starts. He's listed at 5'9" 190 pounds. Because he was signed off of the practice squad of the Texans, the team will have to carry him on their active roster for at least the next three games.
Kaden Davis has been moved between the active roster and practice squad. He's a receiver who can also contribute on special teams. He has been utilized as a kick returner.
Dom Jones suffered his season-ending knee injury on special teams when a player collapsed onto his leg, causing it to bend inward. He was tended to by trainers and able to walk off with help, but the nature of the injury provided plenty of doubt about his ability to play again this season.
Jones was signed as an undrafted rookie out of Colorado State. He is a tall corner, listed 6'2", with long arms, built to play press. He's in a similar vein as players like Martin Emerson Jr. and Kahlef Hailassie. He saw action in eight games, largely on special teams, but saw some action at corner as well.
Jones was part of a huge youth movement for the Browns. They drafted seven players, all of which are on the active roster. Additionally, they signed a talented group of undrafted rookies including defensive lineman Adin Huntington, wide receiver Isaiah Bond, wide receiver Gage Larvadain, safety Donovan McMillon and Jones. They would eventually add rookie running back Raheim Sanders as a waiver claim.
Every single one of those players has seen game action at some point this season. All of them were on the active roster before Jones was placed on injured reserve.
The Browns are still working through the details on a few other injuries. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel is in the concussion protocol while both of their starting tackles are considered day to day with knee injuries. Both Cam Robinson and Jack Conklin left the game against the Baltimore Ravens and did not return.
The Browns, now with Ross, are preparing to go on the road this week to play the Las Vegas Raiders.
