Swansea City are searching for a new manager following the sacking of Alan Sheehan.
The Welsh side parted ways with Sheehan after a poor run of form, winning just one of their last seven league fixtures.
Sheehan initially took charge on an interim basis in February before being handed the role permanently in April.
At the time of his departure, Swansea had won only four of their 15 Championship games this season, amassing 17 points.
Sheehan became the fifth Championship manager to be dismissed this season, following the exits of Ruben Selles, Paulo Pezzolano, Will Still, and Liam Manning.
Maritimo head coach Vítor Matos has been linked with the Swansea City job after previous favourite Kim Hellberg was strongly tipped to move to Middlesbrough.
Swansea had been hopeful that Hellberg, who currently manages Swedish top-flight side Hammarby, would join the club.
However, the Championship side have had to reconsider their options after Hellberg emerged as the preferred choice at the Riverside.
According to talkSPORT, former Liverpool coach Vítor Matos is the new leading contender for the job.
Matos worked under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, where he joined in 2019 as Elite Development Coach, bridging the gap between the academy and the first team.
He left Liverpool in 2024 and subsequently became assistant to Pep Lijnders during his stint at Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg, which ended after just six months due to poor results.
In June 2024, Matos took over as head coach of Maritimo, his first senior managerial role, and has led the team to third place in the Portuguese second tier after 11 games, collecting 20 points.
Before his time at Liverpool, Matos served as assistant manager for Porto B.
He began at Porto in 2011, working in the academy and producing scouting reports, helping to develop several players, including former Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.
