MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Memphis Grizzlies are once again challenging kids all over the Mid-South to read.
The Grizz relaunched their “Read to Achieve” program Tuesday with a Tip-Off Challenge at FedExForum.
More than 6,000 students attended. They’re competing for the chance to attend a special event at the Playhouse Theatre in December.

It’s one of several weekly challenges this school year.
The goal is to get kids reading 20 minutes a day for six weeks.
“Reading isn’t boring,” said Abusheri Ohwofasa, executive director and vice president of Community Engagement for the Grizzlies Foundation. “And there’s so many books they can learn from. And just wanted to make sure they knew the community supports them in their reading journey.”

Students in grades 3 through 5 can participate. This year’s theme is “Dream, Read, Achieve.”
“This event is very important because a lot of times young people don’t come together to realize education is important, and that’s what we want to continue for them to understand and know,” Ohwofasa said.
Along with fostering a love of reading, schools with the top bookworms can earn special treats like field trips.
