Dallas Cowboys Part Ways With Former Draft Pick

The Dallas Cowboys’ linebacker position is starting to take shape with the addition of a veteran and the anticipated return of a starter. Logan Wilson and DeMarvion Overshown played 34 and 31 defensive snaps in their debuts, and are expected to see an increased role once they ease in. Finally, Kenneth Murray Jr., Shemar James, and Marist Liufau, who played 26, 26, and 15 snaps, respectively, will see less playing time moving forward and could alternate for the third linebacker spot.

Because of this, one player has since become the odd man out.

After starting every game in 2023, Damone Clark has since seen his defensive role decrease substantially over the past two seasons, primarily playing on special teams. The former fifth-round pick has recorded 14 tackles across eight games, including two starts, accounting for 15% of defensive snaps this season. Clark has been a healthy scratch twice, first in Week 4, and most recently in Week 11.

According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Cowboys have waived Damone Clark. Since he was released after the NFL Trade Deadline, the linebacker is subject to the waiver wire for the next 24 hours, with the claiming team inheriting the final year of his contract. If Clark clears waivers, he will be free to sign with any team.
