Payton Pritchard has snapped out of his shooting funk to begin the year for a few games now. After Tuesday’s win, it’s fair to say he’s on his first hot streak of the year.
Pritchard posted his third double-double of the season in Tuesday’s 113-99 victory over the Nets, making him Tuesday’s “Name to Know” Player of the Game. The Name to Know Player of the Game is sponsored by John’s Sewer and Drain Cleaning, the Name to Know when your drains don’t flow.
Pritchard finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds and five assists in the victory over 35 minutes and got hot yet again from 3-point range, knocking down five of 12 attempts from beyond the arc. Tuesday marked the third straight game in which Pritchard has hit five or more 3-pointers, the first time he’s done that all season. During that stretch, Pritchard is shooting 51.4 percent from 3-point range (18-of-35)while averaging 25.3 points per game.
Boston has unsurprisingly rolled off a three-game winning streak with Pritchard’s efficiency starting to skyrocket. The Sixth Man of the Year spoke Sunday night about his changed mentality with his shooting form and that attitude continues to pay dividends during this stretch.
“Sometimes I can overcomplicate my form and trying to overcorrect everything and I got in the habit of doing that the first 10 games of overthinking every step how I want my form to look,” Pritchard said earlier this week. “The last two games I’ve kind of just said, ‘F it, I’m going to just shoot it.’ One motion I’m going to just let it fly and don’t worry about the form, all the work should carry it. So that’s kind of been my mindset and I should continue with that.”
Pritchard and Boston will get a chance to keep the momentum going later this week when they host the Nets to finish off the home-and-home set at TD Garden Friday night.
