Eddie Howe has provided the injury latest from his Newcastle United squad as they return to Premier League action against Manchester City on Saturday.
Gordon missed Newcastle’s 3-1 Premier League defeat at Brentford before withdrawing from the England squad due to a hip injury picked up during the 2-0 Champions League win against Athletic Club. Tino Livramento and Yoane Wissa also missed the Brentford game due to knee injuries while Dan Burn was sent off at the Gtech Community Stadium and Nick Pope picked up a concussion during the match.
Burn will be suspended for Saturday’s match before returning to contention for the trip to Marseille while Pope will be back available for selection. Wissa remains out while Livramento is closing in on a return.
Eddie Howe provides Newcastle United injury updates after international break
Sandro Tonali missed Italy’s final World Cup qualifier defeat to Norway over the weekend as he was under the threat of suspension for Italy’s upcoming World Cup play-off matches next year.
But Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe played down any fears the midfielder wouldn’t be available for the Man City game this weekend.
“Yes, we've got a bit of a mixed bag,” Howe told BBC Newcastle. “Anthony, we'll wait and see. He'll be touch-and-go for the game.

“Sandro should be fine. Nick Pope had concussion, but he's passed the protocols there, so he should be fine.”
With Burn suspended, Howe will be forced to make a change at left-back with Lewis Hall poised to make his first Premier League start at St James’ Park since February. The 21-year-old has only recently returned from a hamstring injury, coming off the bench in the Athletic Club and Brentford matches.
Livramento also hasn’t featured since picking up a knee injury in the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal almost two months ago.
Hall has been away with England Under-21s during the international break, starting both wins against Republic of Ireland and Slovakia.
“Yes, and we've still got a few obviously that we're nursing back,” Howe added. “Tino Livramento, Lewis Hall, still in the early stages, although he's made a couple of really good appearances. Yoane Wissa is still out, but starting to up his work now. So, yes, we're looking at a healthier place.”
Newcastle United looking for a response against Man City
Newcastle head into the Man City game sitting 14th in the table, two points above the relegation zone and looking to bounce back from consecutive league defeats.
While Howe managed Newcastle to a 1-0 win over Pep Guardiola’s side at St James’ Park in the Carabao Cup in September 2023, he has never beaten City in the Premier League, losing 16 and drawing twice in 18 meetings.
“We know that we're up against, for me, the best team in the Premier League consistently for the last five, maybe 10 years,” Hoowe said. “I think they've been excellent, so there's no bigger game for me than Manchester City in terms of test. And hopefully that brings out the best in us and we'll certainly be prepared for the game.
“We've had a long time to reflect on our last performance and hopefully we see a response.”
