Everton set to face Manchester United star after he had doubts over Goodison Park move in 2023

Everton take on Manchester United on Monday night, which means Senne Lammens will face the Toffees.

Everton players have been in international action, but the Premier League is about to return.

David Moyes travels to Old Trafford on Monday night as Everton take on Manchester United.

Benjamin Sesko will be missing for United, and Everton must go to Old Trafford with real belief of securing a result.

Senne Lammens to face Everton after Toffees snub

Jordan Pickford will be key to Everton’s hopes of a result, and his opposite number is likely to be Senne Lammens.

The Belgian stopper joined United from Royal Antwerp before the transfer deadline and has become Ruben Amorim’s first-choice stopper.

What’s interesting here is that Lammens could have actually ended up at Everton long before United swooped.

Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad reported in January 2023 that Everton made contact to sign Lammens from Club Brugge.

Lammens was coming towards the end of his Club Brugge contract, and Everton wanted him to develop behind Pickford.

Lammens was unsure about the move, though, as he wanted to become a first-choice goalkeeper with his next move, and doubted that would happen at Everton.

Sure enough, Lammens snubbed Everton and ended up signing for Royal Antwerp instead, where he became first-choice stopper and earned his move to United.

That was a real sliding doors moment for Lammens, who backed himself and reaped the rewards rather than jumping to England at the first opportunity.

Jordan Pickford record against Manchester United

Pickford will look to prove that he is the best goalkeeper on the pitch against United, though Lammens has impressed this season.

Pickford has faced United 18 times in his career and has only beaten the Red Devils twice.

Everton beat United 4-0 with Pickford in goal back in 2019, before a 1-0 win over United in 2022.

Both of those victories came at Goodison Park, so Pickford is still waiting for his first away win over United.

Pickford has kept two clean sheets against United and conceded 38 goals, losing 12 of his 18 meetings.

That is not a particularly impressive record, but Pickford has a big chance to help Everton secure a huge win on the road on Monday night.
