Enzo Maresca not solely responsible for one strategy that has cost Chelsea this season - journalist

Enzo Maresca will be quite pleased with how Chelsea are doing in the current campaign.

Heading into this weekend’s game against Burnley, Chelsea currently sit third in the Premier League table.

In the Champions League, though, things are not exactly going to plan. In the league phase table, Maresca’s men find themselves in 12th place.

Last time out, Maresca rotated his team heavily, and Chelsea proceeded to draw 2-2 with Qarabag.

Chelsea rotation is a ‘club-wide strategy’

Clearly, all the changes that Maresca made against Qarabag backfired. Even so, the Chelsea manager will not be facing any criticism from his bosses for it.

According to BBC Sport journalist Nizaar Kinsella, the rotating that Maresca has been doing this season is a “club-wide strategy” and not solely down to the 45-year-old.

Chelsea played a lot of football last season because of their runs to the Conference League and Club World Cup finals.

They could now be set for another similar campaign, with the team reaching the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup. If Chelsea beat Cardiff City next month, they will have to play a two-legged semi-final at the beginning of 2026.

Axel Disasi recently returned to Chelsea training, so that is another extra body who could help the Blues out.

Why Chelsea fans should expect to see more rotation against Burnley this weekend

There are a couple of reasons why Maresca will probably have to make changes to his Chelsea team on Saturday.

Moises Caicedo may need to be rested after the amount of travelling that the midfielder has done over the international break.

As well as that, after their Premier League fixture against Burnley, Chelsea take on Barcelona in the Champions League.

Maresca will want his best players to be fit and ready for such a huge match. With that in mind, changes at Turf Moor this weekend are likely, with Caicedo being just one player who could be set to start on the bench.
