Ruben Amorim wants to keep the good momentum going at Manchester United

Manchester United are hoping to extend their unbeaten streak to six matches when they welcome Everton to Old Trafford.

Despite the club's worst ever start to a Premier League season, Ruben Amorim's squad have seen a significant mood lift since their last loss in September. Admittedly, two 2-2 stalemates against Tottenham and Nottingham Forest just before the international break didn't exactly set hearts aflutter, especially following a string of impressive victories over Brighton, Liverpool and Sunderland.

Nevertheless, United currently sit seventh, just two points adrift of third-placed Chelsea. A win on Monday could potentially propel them into the Champions League spots for the first time since August 2024, depending on other results. They'll be feeling confident given their strong recent track record against Everton.

Although the latest clash between the teams ended in a draw last February, United had triumphed in the six previous encounters, with their last defeat to the Toffees dating back to April 2022. Here's all the latest news from Old Trafford.

Verdict reached on Wharton

Roy Keane and Rio Ferdinand are in agreement regarding Adam Wharton, with the Crystal Palace midfielder repeatedly linked with a move to Old Trafford, reports the Mirror.

Reports suggest Wharton is high on United's transfer target list, with the club considering making a move in 2026. The 21-year-old has been absolutely sensational since rocking up at Selhurst Park last season and is now a fully-fledged England international, having got the nod in Sunday's 2-0 triumph over Albania.

His calmness, determination and football brain have rightfully earned him rave reviews, but it's his eagerness to thread forward passes that has particularly caught the eye of United legends Keane and Ferdinand.

"I do like Adam Wharton," Keane declared following England's weekend victory. "A lot of the modern midfielders, their first option seems to be, 'Can I go sideways or backwards?'".

"What I like about him, the first option he seems to look at it is, 'Can I pass it forward?' and that's a big strength to have. This is where he can mature over the next year or two if he's playing at the top level.

"Put demands onto people. Shout at players, go, 'Give me the ball!' That's what I used to do, I used to fall out with people a lot. 'Give me the ball!' Put demands on your team-mates.

"He's still new to it, so I'm not going to be too harsh on him. But as he matures and starts playing more games, put demands on your team-mates."

Ferdinand has spotted the exact same quality, specifically praising Wharton's attacking passes as a key reason why he'd be a brilliant acquisition for United.

"I would sign another central midfielder this summer to play alongside Manuel Ugarte. That player needs to be able to take the ball and transfer it up the pitch. You know who I would go for? Adam Wharton," he said on his Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube channel.

"I would go get him. The reason I would take him is that he can get on the ball and transfer it up the pitch. Wharton has got a great range of passing.

"I think he would be a great addition to the United squad. He reminds me of Michael Carrick a bit."

Nevertheless, luring Wharton away from Crystal Palace will be much easier said than done. The Eagles are anticipated to demand around £100million for their star midfielder next summer and, with his deal at Selhurst Park running until 2029, they're under no pressure to sell.

'Next level' transfer urged

Bacary Sagna has called on United to activate Antoine Semenyo's £65m release clause in January, claiming the Bournemouth striker would elevate the club "to the next level."

The Ghanaian has been in outstanding form this campaign, netting six goals and contributing three assists in just 11 Premier League outings.

United, who have long admired him and seriously weighed up a summer move, now have a straightforward route to secure his signature when the clause becomes available, and the former Arsenal and Manchester City defender reckons the fee would represent excellent value.

"Looking forward, if he was to leave Bournemouth and stay in the Premier League, I think Manchester United would be a suitable option for him," Sagna told Oddspedia.

"He could definitely help the club get back to the top end of the league and if he did join them, he'd be regarded as the player which made the difference and take United to the next level.

"He's young, fresh and has proven he can shine in big games this season - so I think Old Trafford could be a good destination for him."

United's transfer approach is now centred on Premier League-tested players, as evidenced by the summer signings of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

Semenyo fits the bill perfectly - both in terms of profile and tactics - with the 25-year-old equally adept operating wide or drifting inside as a forward.

The Red Devils aren't the only admirers, however. Liverpool and Tottenham have also been linked with the player, and widespread knowledge of his £65m January release clause is expected to attract numerous additional clubs.
