“He’s not recovering” – Worry Manchester City star may miss out on World Cup

Rodri has made only eight appearances for Manchester City this season, with his game time restricted by multiple injuries.

The Spain international picked up a knee injury in August before suffering another setback in September. That was followed by a hamstring injury in October, forcing him to miss that month’s international break.

At the start of this month, Rodri came off the bench in Manchester City’s league win over AFC Bournemouth and then picked a hamstring injury. This saw him miss out on Luis de la Fuente’s squad for November’s international break.

Journalists Paco González and Julio Maldonado, also known as Maldini, are pessimistic of the 29-year-old’s involvement at the World Cup.

In September 2024, Rodri sustained a serious injury and only returned to action in May. Since then, he has suffered regular setbacks. González is now concerned whether Rodri can be fit to represent Spain at the big stage.

Gonzalo Miró asked both Paco González and Maldini why they are pessimistic about his injury situation improving in the coming months.

Responding to that, González said: _“I’m not saying this about Rodri because Luis de la Fuente doesn’t have faith in him, it’s that he played four minutes in City’s penultimate match and wasn’t called up for the Champions League. His injuries keep recurring.”_

On the same topic, Maldini explained: _“The problem is that he’s not recovering. He lacks consistency.’_

Last month, [Pep Guardiola said](https://sportwitness.co.uk/lot-of-problems-pep-guardiola-tells-spanish-media-about-reset-at-manchester-city/) “there are always setbacks” once you recover from a serious blow.

Rodri would hope his situation improves so that he can have an important role at both Manchester City and Spain.
