Will Aaron Rodgers play through his wrist injury against the Bears – and should he play?
While Aaron Rodgers does not need surgery to repair a fracture in his non-throwing wrist, his status for Sunday is up in the air. As HC Mike Tomlin outlined yesterday, it comes down to factors such as functionality and risk of reinjury. If he can perform sufficiently while protecting himself, he is likely to play.
We don’t know whether or not he can, but I’m sure he plans to try. Tomlin hinted that the Steelers might test out Rodgers’ wrist injury on Friday. If he passes that test and they can wrap him up in such a way that he is not a danger to himself, he will be hunting for year another Bears pelt.
There is a question of whether or not the Steelers should rest Aaron Rodgers this week, though, and give his wrist injury just a bit more time. While it’s not going to heal on its own in just a few weeks, there should be benefits to waiting. Odds are he will struggle to perform more this weekend than he would next weekend.
And they know what they have in Mason Rudolph. The Steelers could even dress Rodgers and let Rudolph start. If Rudolph struggles, they could bring Rodgers off the bench. Or they could do the opposite and start Rodgers, pulling him if he has issues of any kind.
Even before his wrist injury, Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers offense were experiencing a rough patch. Some even questioned whether we were reaching a point at which they should bench him for performance reasons. While I think that was always over the top, the fact is the offense has been better.
And they’re not going to be better with Rodgers playing through a wrist injury. But is Aaron Rodgers with an injured wrist better than Mason Rudolph at full health and a mustache? We can’t overlook the swag that brings. Especially in Chicago.
After another disappointing season and months of retooling, the Steelers are set to try it all again in 2025. Though they limped into the playoffs, they once again embarrassed themselves therein.
Just like last year, the biggest question hanging over the Steelers isthe quarterback question. They settled in on Aaron Rodgers, but we still have a lot to learn about him. The2025 NFL Draft class could play a big role, but veteran additions like Jalen Ramsey will be paramount.
Now we are in the regular season. From Rodgers to George Pickens to Minkah Fitzpatrick and Ramsey, we’ve seen the Steelers make some big changes. Now it’s about evaluating the roster in place and figuring out how it all works out.
