**David Moyes OBE discussed how a deal was attempted to bring Scott McTominay to West Ham, but couldn’t be concluded.**
Upon his incredibly successful departure from Manchester United, McTominay isn’t only being successful at a club level, but has also integrated himself as a Scottish legend as time passes.
His emphatic overhead kick last night gave Scotland the lead in what would prove to be one of the most vital nights for Scotland as they qualified for the 2026 World Cup.
Upon their qualification, Moyes discussed, “Lots of managers have hard luck stories about players that get away and McTominay is one because I tried to sign him for West Ham. He is a good all-round midfielder. McTominay was a player who I felt I needed at the time but we didn’t get it over the line.”
Hammers fans will be quick to remember at the time how many criticised Moyes for wanting to bring in McTominay, and now half the world would love to sign him… we’ve had numerous players be like this, so it isn’t a first-time shock, but it does make you wonder what could’ve happened if he signed for West Ham.
Regardless, it’s a shame that we ended up with a certain set of other midfielders instead of McTominay, but at the end of the day, that’s Football. Sometimes you win some and other times you lose them… apart from the fact that it feels more often than not that West Ham end up losing in these battles.
Who knows what “we didn’t get it over the line” means, whether that was regarding the transfer fee itself or personal terms, we won’t find out, but we’d all agree in unity that we’ve missed out on a star.
