It may not be major news for Manchester City fans anymore, but it is now a clear confirmation: Vitor Reis is expected to be part of Pep Guardiola’s squad next season.
The update comes from journalist Bruno Andrade, who reported on [**ESPN**](https://www.espn.com.br/video/clipe/_/id/15973393) that the club have already defined the Brazilian’s next step after his loan spell at Girona.
#### Manchester City follow every detail of the loan spell
Reis joined Manchester City from Palmeiras for €37m earlier this year. He arrived highly rated but found limited room in the first team, which led to his loan to Girona. The move came despite interest and enquiries from Porto and Bayern Munich.
Manchester City preferred to place him inside the City Football Group, where monitoring and control are easier.
Girona sit 17th in La Liga, but the 19-year-old has been one of their bright spots. He has played 12 league matches, all as a starter. Andrade explained that City track his progress closely, evaluating his performance every time he completes a cycle of five games.
The analysis includes data, physical numbers and match influence. Guardiola receives these reports directly and follows the progress “even more closely”.
#### Guardiola counts on him regardless of Stones’ future
The update also ties into the uncertainty surrounding John Stones, who reaches the end of his contract at the end of next season.
Andrade stated, however, that Reis’ return does not depend on Stones leaving or renewing. City already see the Brazilian as a confirmed part of their 2026/27 squad.
Reis remains under contract with Manchester City until 2029 and is viewed as an important piece of Guardiola’s long-term planning.
His loan at Girona was meant to give him minutes at a high level, and the club believe he is developing exactly as expected.
