Arne Slot and Liverpool will be hopeful that Alisson Becker will be return to action against Nottingham Forest this Saturday at Anfield.
The Brazilian shot-stopper has been unavailable since September 30, when he was forced off in the second half of Liverpool’s disappointing 1-0 Champions League defeat to Galatasaray in Istanbul.
The injury marked yet another frustrating setback in what has become a concerning pattern for the Liverpool keeper.
Initial projections suggested a six-week recovery period, and that timeline has proven largely accurate. Alisson missed Brazil’s recent international fixtures against Senegal and Tunisia, with national team boss Carlo Ancelotti opting to call up Ederson and Bento instead.
However, speaking ahead of Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester City before the international break, Slot provided an encouraging update on his goalkeeper’s progress.
“Alisson for sure, and I expect Jeremie [Frimpong] back after the international break as well because we play from November until March,” Slot explained. “But I don’t expect Jeremie to be fully fit for Forest, but with Alisson we expect this.”
And it seems like that projection was accurate.
The Standard have reported that Alisson is set to be back in full training at the AXA Training Centre this week after a seven-week absence.
The ‘keeper will train with the team in an attempt to prove his fitness ahead of Saturday’s clash at Anfield.
It is claimed that Liverpool’s internationals from the past ten days are set to return to the AXA Training Centre starting Wednesday.
Backup keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has struggled to provide consistent performances, despite some impressive individual displays, leaving Liverpool’s defence looking increasingly vulnerable during their recent slump.
Alisson’s commanding presence and world-class shot-stopping ability will be desperately needed as the Reds attempt to arrest their alarming slide down the table.
