Chelsea player “desperate” for spring miracle after bad luck of last months

Club football is back this weekend, but we’re still living with the fresh memory of this international break just gone.

Clubs and players all over the world are securing their places for the World Cup next summer, and but there are some trending away as well as towards North America.

Poor Cole Palmer couldn’t have had done much more with his club form over the last few years to be considered a guaranteed starter for England, but some badly timed injuries have meant he’s played just once for England in over a year, back in June.

By the time his next chance to feature comes around in March, it will be just once in 18 months, and there will be just a couple of friendlies to show what he can do before the squad is picked.

For most players that would be a critical situation – England have no shortage of numbers 10s and have had a perfect record without Palmer. But according to Matt Law’s piece for the Daily Telegraph today, there’s no panic in the player’s camp.

“Stamford Bridge insiders remain insistent that they believe Palmer will go to the World Cup if he is fit,” Law wrote, claiming that “the player’s desperation to go has been made evident to those around him” in recent times.

“He is even said to have discussed the various permutations open to Tuchel with some of his allies.”

The most important thing for Cole now is to start playing for Chelsea and let his club form do the talking.

The podcast also took a look at the season as a whole, and quite correctly pointed out that the “vibes” weren’t quite matching up with the results, which have seen the Blues up to third place.

Chelsea’s rotation policy is something which is being questioned – but not internally. The club are fully behind Enzo Maresca’s decisions, according to the BBC.
