Most would agree that Liverpool’s two top young talents at the moment are 17-year-old winger Rio Ngumoha and 18-year-old midfielder Trey Nyoni, with Ngumoha a frequent bench option and occasional substitute for manager Arne Slot and Nyoni regularly training with the first team and a near lock for cup minutes.
Now, though, according to [The Athletic](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6813940/2025/11/19/what-happens-next-for-liverpools-top-talents-rio-ngumoha-and-trey-nyoni/) the club are mulling over whether either—or potentially both—of the young players would be better served by playing more regular senior football this season, something which could lead to loans in January. Of the two, Ngumoha is said to be unlikely to end up loaned out due to his age.
Having just turned 17 at the start of the season and seeing action off the bench occasionally in league games while starting domestic cup matches while he trains with the first team rather than playing with the U21s—which would then mean missing training due to recovery—for this season at least a loan seems less likely.
Nyoni, though, has had more time at the club and is a little older and it is suggested that if the perfect fit loan destination could be found, that might appeal. Currently, in addition to playing senior cup matches, Nyoni does participate more with the U21s and then trains with the senior squad when his schedule lines up.
All in all, then, we’d be inclined to rate the chances of a Ngumoha loan as very close to zero in the short-term, and it seems likelier than not Nyoni also won’t be heading anywhere in January though in his case there does seem at least an outside chance of a short-term departure if the right opportunity presents itself.
