Much has been made of Leeds United's forthcoming four-match run that is coming up. Starting at home to Aston Villa on Sunday, Leeds play in order, Manchester City, Chelsea and then Liverpool in the next few weeks.
It's a daunting looking fixture list and one which obviously leaves many feeling the Whites have to get something, probably even a win, from the Villa game given what is to come.
With Daniel Farke under pressure after four defeats in the last five games, picking up something from the next four games is seen as difficult and yet essential. The trouble for Leeds is, if you think it gets easier after those next four games, it doesn't.
Okay, Brentford, Crystal Palace and Sunderland are not the same as the big Champions League sides, however they pose one big problem for Leeds.
Each of Leeds’ last seven Premier League wins have been against sides starting the day in 13th place or lower in the table. They’ve won none of their last 17 against sides in the top half (drawn six and lost 11) since a 2-1 win at Liverpool (8th) in October 2022.
As things currently stand in the table, Leeds are not due to play anyone in 13th place or lower until they come up against 14th placed Newcastle United on January 7. So forget about just focussing on four tough games coming up, the Whites will have to do something they haven't done in a long time if they are to register a fourth win of this campaign.
Sunday's game at home against Villa is the first and arguably best chance in the next few weeks to pick up a victory, but the omens are not in Leeds' favour.
Leeds are winless in their last five Premier League games against Aston Villa (drawn two and lost three), since a 3-0 away win in October 2020. Meanwhile, Villa have lost just one of their last 11 Premier League away games against Leeds (won four and drawn six), going down 3-1 in May 2003 under Graham Taylor.
Leeds have failed to score in each of their last three home league games against Aston Villa, but the good news is they they’ve never gone four games without a goal at Elland Road against an opponent.
