Former Everton defender Tony Hibbert has revealed how impressed he is with James Garner this season.
Hibbert insists that Garner’s versatility can be a huge asset to the Blues, stating ‘he’s got everything’.
He said: “I think you can play [James Garner] in any position, and he wouldn’t look out of place at all on that pitch.
“To be honest, I’m gobsmacked with him. He’s got everything, he seems a good lad around the Club, the lads like him and you can see what he wants for his teammates and how they want to play. I think he’s just a great asset to have for us.”
GARNER HAS BEEN A STANDOUT PLAYER FOR MOYES
Garner’s form has been impressive so far this season, and has been a standout player in several positions.
Indeed, the 24-year-old filled in at left-back for the injured Mykolenko, before finding consistent form in midfield.
Against Fulham, he was utilised at right-back and was once again a contender for Player of the Match. Indeed, his work-rate and distribution in particular were outstanding.
The Birkenhead-born player’s contract is up next summer, with talks for renewed terms yet to begin.
There is an option to extend his current deal by a year, however, which would mean we’d avoid losing him on a free.
Newcastle United have reportedly expressed an interest in his availability, though Moyes seems to be a fan.
With recent contract extensions for both Pickford and Tarkowski, ideally Garner would be next for a renewed deal.
He seems to be coming into his own as a player and has previously stated his ambitions of getting into Thomas Tuchel’s squad.
There’s no doubt Garner can become a key player under Moyes. His versatility can be a real asset, while his attitude and work rate are second to none.
It could be a big season for the 24-year-old, with plenty of potential yet to be fulfilled.
