It’s been an important international break for Liverpool’s European players as World Cup qualification reached its climax. While Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai and Milos Kerkez suffered heartbreak, team-mate Andy Robertson was the beneficiary of some incredible late drama.

And for others, their ticket to the finals was much more serene.

With the World Cup picture now becoming clearer, here’s which Reds we can expect to see in North America next summer. And also who are still fighting to get on the plane to the 2026 tournament, which will be in the United States, Canada and Mexico between June 11 and July 19 next year.

Scotland – Andy Robertson

A dramatic 4-2 win against Denmark on Tuesday night means the Scots have qualified for the World Cup finals for the first time since 1998. Andy Robertson is set to become the first player since Colin Hendry to captain Scotland at international football’s most prestigious event.

Netherlands – Virgil Van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo & Jeremie Frimpong

A comfortable 4-0 win against Lithuania on Monday night ensured the Dutch topped Group G to send them to their 12th World Cup finals. Assuming they remain fit, the Liverpool quartet would all expect to be selected for the final squad next summer.

France – Ibrahima Konate & Hugo Ekitike

France’s 4-0 win against Ukraine saw them confirm their World Cup place last week, with Hugo Ekitike getting on the scoresheet for Les Blues for the first time. Although a new face around the French camp, the 23-year-old has put himself in pole position for a World Cup place following his start to life in Liverpool.

As for Ibrahima Konate, the only question mark around him will be whether he’s a Liverpool player when he represents France in June.

Germany – Florian Wirtz

The Liverpool man made headlines with two fantastic assists as Germany confirmed their World Cup spot with a 6-0 win against Slovakia on Monday night. Despite a tough start to life on Merseyside there’s no doubt the 22-year-old will one of Germany’s main men next summer.

England – Curtis Jones?

The Three Lions qualified with ease back in October, however there’s a real chance that come June there’s no Liverpool players in England’s final World Cup squad for the first time since 1986. Curtis Jones will still be hopeful of a call up, but having been excluded from all three of Thomas Tuchel’s squads this season, it’s looking increasingly unlikely.

Egypt - Mohamed Salah

Liverpool’s main man will play at his second World Cup next summer having helped his country confirm their place last month. He’ll be hoping to help them progress out of the group stages for the first time, having failed on their previous three attempts.

Argentina – Alexis Mac Allister

The reigning champions have been qualified since March and will be hoping to become the first country to win back-to-back World Cup’s since Brazil in 1958 & 1962. If the South Americans were to lift the trophy Alexis Mac Allister would become the first Liverpool player to do so since 2010.

Brazil – Alisson Becker

Brazil’s qualification in June has ensured they will maintain their record of competing at every edition of the World Cup. For Alisson Becker, the biggest obstacle now is ensuring he’s fit for the tournament having missed 39 games through injury since the start of last season.

Japan – Wataru Endo

Having qualified last March, Wataru Endo is set to captain Japan at their eighth World Cup finals. The midfielder will no doubt make Japan’s final squad, but his lack of minutes for Liverpool could mean the 32-year-old has a reduced role by the time the tournament comes around next summer.

For three Liverpool players their World Cup fate will be decided in March during the European World Cup play-offs. Conor Bradley, Alexander Isak and Federico Chiesa will all be hoping their respective nations can take one of the last four World Cup spots, which 16 nations will be competing for.

As Northern Ireland and Sweden qualified through their UEFA Nations league performances and not by finishing runners-up in their qualifying groups, their paths are expected to be harder as they get drawn from pot four.

While Bradley and Isak are certainties for their nations, there’s more uncertainty around Chiesa. The forward rejected his latest Italy call-up as he wants to ensure he is at "100 percent" before returning to international duty.

As for the rest of Liverpool’s squad they’ll almost certainly be watching the big tournament from home. Joe Gomez and Rio Ngumoha may still hold faint hope injuries could carve a path for them into Tuchel’s plans, but the rest of the Reds will have to wait at least another four years for their chance, with Liverpool’s Hungarian duo the most notable exclusions.
