Kostas Tsimikas joined AS Roma on a season-long loan from Liverpool at the end of August 2025, a move designed to give the 29-year-old Greek left-back regular first-team football after falling behind Andy Robertson and new signing Milos Kerkez in the pecking order at Anfield.

The loan arrangement, which runs until June 30, 2026, sees Roma covering Tsimikas’ reported £75,000-per-week wages,

The Greek international has made eight appearances for Roma—five in Serie A and three in the Europa League—totaling 368 minutes of action.

Despite expectations that he would bolster Roma’s left wing-back position under new manager Gian Piero Gasperini, the Greek international has struggled to cement a starting role, even in the absence of regular starter Angelino.

According to a report from TuttomercatoWeb, the situation has become concerning.

The Italian outlet states that “Kostas Tsimikas has not fully convinced Gian Piero Gasperini during his two and a half months at Roma”.

The report continues: “He is on a dry loan until June 30, 2026, but a transfer seems difficult unless there is a clear turnaround in the coming weeks. It is likely he will stay until the end of the season”.

Roma are understood to be relieved that no purchase obligation was attached to the loan agreement, as Tsimikas has failed to make the expected impact.

Unless his performances dramatically improve in the coming weeks, Roma will almost certainly send him back to Liverpool next summer without pursuing a permanent transfer.

This development leaves Tsimikas’ long-term future uncertain. With his contract at Anfield running until 2027, he faces a crossroads.

Having been deemed surplus to requirements under Arne Slot and now struggling to convince in Italy, the left-back may need to reassess his options ahead of next season, with a return to Liverpool appearing inevitable but his role there far from guaranteed.
