[Atlanta Falcons](/sport/atlanta-falcons/index.html) quarterback Michael Penix Jr. needs surgery to reconstruct his entire knee, meaning he will miss nine months.
Penix was left in clear discomfort after aggravating a bone bruise on his left knee early in the third quarter of Atlanta's 30-27 overtime defeat and did not return.
The Falcons confirmed on Wednesday that he has an ACL sprain and needs surgery to repair it.
