Aaron Rodgers injured his left, non-throwing wrist late in Sunday’s win over the Bengals; coaches stabilized it and said surgery isn’t required.
He won’t practice Wednesday; Friday will determine availability. Mason Rudolph will step in, and many still believe Rudolph can take the Steelers to the Divisional finals this season.

NFL insider and reporter Dan Orlovsky’s view on Mason Rudolph
Rudolph brings veteran poise and a steady, workmanlike approach. Analysts point to his clean relief performance 12 of 16 for 127 yards and a touchdown, as proof the offense can function without a superstar arm. “He’s won games for us before,” supporters note, underscoring trust in his experience.
Dan Orlovsky argued the team should err on the side of caution with Rodgers and let Rudolph lead for a week or two. Orlovsky favored resting Rodgers to preserve him for a longer playoff push, saying, “I’d sit him.”

“They’re not going to matter when it comes to a Super Bowl run, but they’ve got a chance to win the division and get into the playoffs. The offense won’t take a step back for a game or two with Mason Rudolph,” Orlovsky said.
Rudolph already knows the system, has discussed tailored packages with coordinators, and showed comfort running the offense late against Cincinnati. Teammates including Calvin Austin III and Cameron Heyward publicly backed Rudolph. His preparation, leadership in walkthroughs, past starting experience, and ability to keep the offense efficient during pressure moments.

Critics point out Rudolph has not been a long-term starter and questions about baseline talent remain.
“Mason Rudolph is plenty capable of stepping in and playing at a fair level. I’d also say that he’s more willing to throw the ball downfield than Aaron,” Orlovsky noted.
The Steelers have a competent, seasoned backup who fits their scheme and can preserve the team’s short-term goals. Allowing Rudolph to manage one or two games could protect Rodgers’ long-term availability while keeping Pittsburgh competitive and on track for the postseason.
