Liverpool are heavily linked with a new winger as potential long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah

The Premier League returns this weekend, along with Liverpool’s chance to make tracks in turning their season around.

The Reds’ chances of defending their title are rapidly fading and several problem areas have been highlighted by both fans and professionals. Despite only being 11 games into the season, concerns about Liverpool’s squad have been raised and the club higher-ups are back on the market for potential new signings.

Liverpool urged to sign Antoine Semenyo as Mo Salah replacement

Salah’s more quiet start to the season has been a big concern and Liverpool are pursuing potential replacement options. The Egyptian turns 34 next year and there will soon come a time where he is no longer Anfield’s poster boy in attack. Liverpool know Salah’s long-term successor will need to be someone special. They are considering knocking on Bournemouth’s door again, this time for the signature of Antoine Semenyo.

The Ghana international is on the radar of multiple clubs thanks to his form with the Cherries - nine goal-scoring contributions in 11 games so far this season - and Darren Bent has urged the Reds to get ahead of the competition and snap him up.

“He has exploded out of the traps this season and he just looks really comfortable in himself. Every game you see him do something and you go, 'Oh my goodness'… he’s one of those rare players and I call players like this unstoppable. Gareth Bale was like that,” the former England international told talkSPORT (via the Mirror).

“When I talk about unstoppable I’m talking about their attributes. When Bale started to move, you just couldn’t stop him and Semenyo is the same. Once he gets going, he’s going past people and he’s gliding. What’s good about him is that he can go both ways. I think he’s got the full package.

“For so long now, Liverpool have been able to depend on Salah on that right-hand side, season upon season, and don’t get me wrong, he’s been one of the best players we’ve ever seen in this country. But the signs are that he potentially maybe is slowing down a fraction. Now, all of a sudden, you have to start addressing both sides.”

Will Liverpool sign Antoine Semenyo in 2026?

Liverpool are firm admirers of Semenyo and TEAMtalk has reported that they are ‘ahead in the race’ to snag his signature, over Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The Cherries winger is under contract until 2030 and reportedly has a release clause worth £65 million, which can be activated during the January transfer window. Liverpool are said to be ‘ready to meet’ this figure in order to bring him to Anfield. Bent also believes Liverpool are in with a chance of signing Semenyo but there could be interest in Manchester City on his part as well.

“I think he would go to Liverpool. I think he can get into any top, top squad. You’re still going to get more than enough minutes but it depends on his ambition. His ambition might be: 'Get me to Manchester City, I’m better than Doku,' that might be his mindset.”
