The New York Giants have a 2-9 record this season and they will be heading on the road this weekend to face a talented 6-4 Detroit Lions football team. New York will be heavy underdogs against Detroit this week.

The Lions are favored by -10.5 points in the game. With that being said, the Giants have no shot to make it to the playoffs this season, but there is a world where they could be the first team eliminated from playoff contention this weekend. According to Joe Ferreira on Twitter, he said,
“NFL PLAYOFFS: Heading into NFL Week 12, we have our first playoff elimination scenario, but no playoff clinchings possible this week. ELIMINATIONS… NEW YORK GIANTS (2-9) – Will be eliminated from playoff contention with: 1) NYG loss + DAL win 2) NYG loss + MIN win 3) NYG loss + SEA win or tie It’s a bit complicated due to all of the games left between teams that can possibly best NYG at 7-10 (4-8 in conf), but the loss to the Lions creates a domino effect where the only way to stay alive for NYG is to have DAL lose or tie (vs PHI) + MIN lose or tie (at GB) + SEA lose (at TEN). If NYG were to be eliminated this week with 6 weeks to play it would be the earliest playoff exit for the
since 1976(!) when they moved into Giants Stadium…the 0-8 Giants were eliminated in 14-week season. This would also be the earliest playoff elimination in the NFL since 2020 (NYJ in week 11 in 17-week season).”
This would be a new low for the Giants if this was the case. They were extremely bad in the 1970s. The Giants are also a horrible franchise right now. If they continue to lose football games, there is no way that owner John Mara could potentially bring back Joe Schoen as general manager next season and the other coaches on this staff as well.

There are a lot of Giants fans who reacted on Twitter to the fact that they could be eliminated from playoff contention this early in the season. This would be an all-time low for the franchise.
An elimination here would be the Giants’ earliest since 1976’s 0-8 start in a 14-week season and the league’s soonest since the 2020 Jets in Week 11, underscoring a historically poor campaign with only a 7-10 max possible amid conference losses

It’s ok because they won the week 6 Super Bowl vs the eagles

@Giants the general manager is gonna have this to add to his resume. All this evidence that’s shows he’s horrible at his job, yet he’s completely safe? As a fan how am I supposed to believe things will get better. Pathetic

New York has only made the playoffs twice since they last won the Super Bowl during the 2011 season. This franchise has been poorly run, and fans are tired of missing the playoffs every year and being a bottom feeder in the NFL. The Giants need a culture changer in the offseason at head coach and need a new general manager who is much better at drafting and roster construction.
