TEMPE — Arizona Cardinals receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. will miss a second game as he recovers from appendicitis, head coach Jonathan Gannon said Wednesday. Gannon also ruled out running back Emari Demercado.
But in a bit of positive news, the team is designating running back Trey Benson to return from injured reserve this week.
The running back’s 21-day practice window will be open, and he can be activated off injured reserve at any time.
Benson, who took over starting running back duties for the injured James Conner, went down in Week 4’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks with a knee injury and has not played since.
In four games (one start) this season, the 2024 third-round pick has recorded 160 yards on 29 carries. He caught 13 of 16 targets for 64 receiving yards.
With Benson sidelined, Michael Carter, Bam Knight and Emari Demercado have seen additional snaps in the backfield.
Demercado, however, will not play this week due to an ankle injury suffered in Sunday’s loss to San Francisco, Gannon said.
