New Orleans Saints Mutually Part Ways With 9,697-Yard Weapon

The New Orleans Saints signed Brandin Cooks to a two-year contract worth up to $13 million in March, hoping to provide depth for quarterbacks Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough. So far, the reunion has not panned out for the former first-round pick, recording 19 receptions for 165 yards across ten games, and is on pace for 32 receptions for 281 yards, the second-lowest total of his career. The Saints attempted to trade Cooks an NFL record five times before the NFL Trade Deadline but were unable to find a suitor.

According to Nick Underhill of New Orleans.Football, the Saints, and Brandin Cooks have mutually agreed to part ways after 11 weeks in New Orleans. Underhill also adds that he renegotiated his contract to facilitate his release. Lastly, Cooks will be subject to the waiver wire for the next 24 hours, and if he clears waivers, he is free to sign with any team.

Since the Saints currently have just three wide receivers on the active roster, they will likely promote one or two from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. Dante Pettis and Kevin Austin Jr. have been elevated once for gameday, while Ronnie Bell has yet to play this season.
