Filip Jorgensen considering Chelsea exit

Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is considering an exit during the January transfer window in search of regular playing time, according to [Fabrizio Romano](https://x.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1991172586664079634).

Jorgensen’s transfer to Chelsea from La Liga outfit Villarreal in the summer of 2024 was largely prompted by Enzo Maresca’s desire for a goalkeeper comfortable with playing out from the back.

During his final season at Villarreal, he completed 875 passes and ranked among the top goalkeepers in terms of distribution and sweeping actions, traits Maresca values highly.

However, the Denmark international has struggled to find consistent first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge, often playing second fiddle to Robert Sanchez.

Jorgensen has made only four appearances across all competitions this term, including two in the Carabao Cup and a single Premier League outing, which came under unusual circumstances when Sanchez was sent off early in a match against Manchester United.

With Denmark’s World Cup playoff approaching in March and competition from veteran goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel still strong, Jorgensen sees regular club football as essential to breaking into the national team’s starting XI.

Chelsea’s goalkeeper situation remains complex, with the club having tried to bring in additional experienced talent, but so far sticking with Sanchez as their primary option.

Jorgensen’s departure would leave Chelsea needing to reassess their goalkeeping department, potentially opening the door for new signings.

They could choose to reignite their interest in January, given the Frenchman’s contract situation at the San Siro as he enters the final few months of his existing deal.
