CINCINNATI, Ohio — The Bengals won’t have the services of wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase on Sunday as he serves a one-game suspension for spitting on Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey.
News of the suspension came on Monday night, hours after Bengals coach Zac Taylor had his weekly press conference.
Wednesday was his first chance to comment on the Chase suspension.
“We gave them everything we had,” Taylor told reporters on Wednesday. “They upheld the suspension. And so as a team, we just got to move forward, you know, still support Ja’Marr, and I have supported Ja’Marr, but we got to focus on New England now and look forward to getting Ja’Marr back next Monday.”
Taylor noted that he can’t communicate with Chase when asked about his expectations for his star receiver while he is away from the team this week.
The suspension puts more pressure on the depth of the Bengals receiving corps behind Tee Higgins to step up. That includes Andrei Iosivas, Charlie Jones and Mitchell Tinsley, whom Taylor singled out as someone who has already taken advantage of an opportunity.
“Yeah, guys just taking advantage of the opportunity. Again, that’s exactly what it is. That’s how some guys have gotten their chances,” Taylor said. “That’s how Mitch Tinsley has gotten himself on the roster, has taken advantage of moments where he’s at.
“And so, again, I just think we’ll continue to evaluate those guys. We got a good plan in place to utilize everybody we can, and we’ll see how guys continue to step up as the week goes.”
