Justin Fields time with the Jets looks likely to be over
New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn made the decision to bench Justin Fields with Tyrod Taylor set to take over as the starting quarterback - suggesting his time with the team could already be over.
It's a bitter blow for Fields, who has now had three opportunities at three different teams to win over the starting role - having failed and now likely being set to look for a new team next year with the Jets incentivized to cut him.

In a quarterback draft class that could be weaker than many expected, with Dante Moore, LaNorris Sellers and Arch Manning looking likely to go back to college - Fields could be seen as a better option than many would imagine. The league may find that intriguing quarterback prospects could be tough to identify this offseason, with Fields showing he's capable of winning games in the right system.

One of those systems had been with the Pittsburgh Steelers, with CBS Sports' Bryan DeArdo suggesting that they could be in for him once again this offseason.
DeArdo argued that Fields could be a logical replacement for Rodgers after being with the team last season - despite losing his starting spot to Russell Wilson.
Fields was the starter through the first six games of the season, leading them to a 4-2 record in a decision that was seen as slightly harsh.

Justin Fields was with the Steelers in the 2024 season
The dual-threat quarterback had thrown for just five touchdowns in their first six games, but also ran for five touchdowns while proving to be capable of winning games.
It remains to be seen whether the Steelers would be interested in Fields, having been so eager to move off of him despite winning games for them.
Fields is all but certain to leave the Jets after this season, despite signing a two-year deal with the team and quickly named the starter.

Aaron Glenn made the move to go to Tyrod Taylor
His $20 million contract was agreed to in a way that makes it easy for the Jets to get out of, with them opening up $10 million in cap space should the cut him after the season.
Other likely landing spots for Fields could be the Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders and potentially even the Los Angeles Rams - with Matt Stafford considering retirement last offseason.
Stafford is the MVP favorite right now, but has sustained a number of injuries while almost retiring before the beginning of this year.
Brady Cook is the only other quarterback besides Taylor and Fields on the roster, an undrafted rookie from Missouri, who could be elevate from the practice squad in the coming weeks.
