Pittsburgh Steelers could get three players back against Bears, including star cornerback

The Pittsburgh Steelers could welcome back three players against the Chicago Bears, head coach Mike Tomlin said. Cornerback Darius Slay, who is battling a concussion, is expected to return this week after nearly clearing protocol a week ago.

Tomlin says that despite James Pierre’s standout performance and some of Slay’s struggles over the season, Slay will assume the starting cornerback position once again.

“He steps back in and plays,” Tomlin said. “We’re certainly going to continue to play James. He’s deserving of that. But if healthy, Slay is going to play.”

Meanwhile, linebacker Cole Holcomb, who has battled an illness and has missed the last three games, should return as well. He was limited in practice last week, and the Steelers plan to ramp him up to a full participation this week and get him back on the field. In the meantime, Malik Harrison has started playing for the Steelers.

Running back Jaylen Warren also is expected to play after suffering an ankle injury against the Bengals. Warren suffered the injury in third quarter and did not return, but Tomlin said that Warren was cleared to go back into the game despite the ailment popping up. It is expected to limit him to start the week.
