Kalen DeBoer had a chance to praise some veteran leaders on the Alabama football roster to end his appearance on the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday.
The last question the Crimson Tide coach was asked: who’s the most consistent player you have on your football team this year?
“That’s a lot of guys,” DeBoer said. “I think Germie Bernard has been really consistent from start to finish. It’s as a receiver, and that’s what you see a lot of. But I felt like he raised his game as a blocker. There was some run games things he got involved with. Helped create some explosives. We focus so much up front, I mean those guys are the ones who can help pop big plays. His effort all around and his leadership I would say he is probably the most consistent. I mean Parker (Brailsford) would be up there as well as one of the guys who is most consistent this year from start to finish so far.”
Bernard is a senior receiver from Las Vegas. This season, he has caught 48 passes for 676 yards and six touchdowns. He also has rushed 16 times for 97 yards and two more scores. Bernard started his career at Michigan State before transferring to Washington in 2023. Then Bernard followed DeBoer to Tuscaloosa where Bernard has spent the past two seasons.
Brailsford, Alabama’s starting center and a captain, is also in the second year as a starter for the Crimson Tide after following DeBoer from Washington. The Arizona native spent two seasons with the Huskies.
No. 10 Alabama will face Eastern Illinois on Saturday (1 p.m. CT, ESPN+/SEC Network+) at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
