To say that this season has been tough for New York Giants fans wouldn’t tell half of the story. They’ve lost two of their most exciting young players, Malik Nabers and Cam Skattebo, to season-ending injuries, and they’ve seen rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart sidelined as well.

However, there has been an unsung hero on the other side of the ball. Brian Burns has established himself as one of the best pass rushers in the game, and he could join rare Giants company with an impressive stat.

“Brian Burns needs seven sacks in the final six games to reach 20 sacks on the season. Only other Giants to reach this rare air are Michael Strahan with 22.5 sacks in 2001 and Lawrence Taylor with 20.5 sacks in 1986. Even more impressive, Burns has done this on the worst defense in the NFL,” Tommy wrote on X.

The Giants’ defense should be much better than it is. It was expected to have one of the most physical front sevens in the game, featuring Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux and Abdul Carter.

The No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, Carter has been one of the most disappointing rookies in the league this season. But Burns has been better than advertised. The veteran can be the defensive anchor for years to come, and he’s justifying the big contract extension he received last offseason after being traded by the Carolina Panthers.

The Giants aren’t likely to win many more games this season, and they should be picking near the top of the 2026 NFL Draft. They have some solid pieces to build around, and they might just need a competent head coach to return to playoff contention.
