Out-of-favour Chelsea first-team player could leave in January

The Danish shot-stopper moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2024 in what was one of Enzo Maresca’s first signings as Chelsea boss.

The Blues paid Villarreal £21million for his services with Jorgensen expected to challenge Robert Sanchez for the No.1 spot.

Jorgensen, who described his move to west London as a ‘dream come true’ signed a whopping seven-year contract.

But he has featured just 28 times for Chelsea and was the club’s cup goalkeeper last season.

Just 18 months into his lengthy deal, the 23-year-old is considering a move in a bid to secure first team football.

Eyeing the exit door

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Jorgensen and his agents have opened the door to a move as soon as January.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “In terms of exits and so potentially an imminent move at Chelsea, could be for Filip Jorgensen, former Villarreal goalkeeper who joined Chelsea to be in a competitive opportunity to try to become the starting goalkeeper.

“But Enzo Maresca looks quite clear – the starting goalkeeper in the key games and on a regular basis is Robert Sanchez.

“What I can reveal to you is that Filip Jorgensen together with his agents is considering leaving Chelsea in the January transfer window.

“Jorgensen respects Chelsea’s strategy, respects also what Enzo Maresca and his staff are deciding, but at the same time, while he’s a very good professional, a very serious boy and not just a very good goalkeeper, Filip Jorgensen wants to play football.

“Filip Jorgensen believes that this is an opportunity for him to go, find the right chance, go and play.

“He wants to play, he needs to play. There is a World Cup coming.

“Obviously, Denmark will have to fight for their spot, but Filip Jorgensen believes that playing on a regular basis is something too important for his career on club and country sides, and so Filip Jorgensen is considering leaving Chelsea in the January transfer window.

“Let’s see what Chelsea decide to do also because they have Sanchez, they have him and then, of course, they also have Gaga Slonina for the future.

“Don’t forget about Mike Penders, the Belgian goalkeeper signed by Chelsea in 2024, and he’s on loan performing and showing his qualities.”

Blues stand firm

talkSPORT understands Chelsea have no plans to let Jorgensen leave on loan in the winter transfer window.

“Understand Chelsea have no plans to sanction a Filip Jorgensen loan in January,” transfer reporter Ben Jacobs posted on X.

talkSPORT understands Chelsea aren't actively looking to sell Jorgensen, however, a sale can't be ruled out.

The Blues do have the ability to recall Mike Penders from his loan at sister club Strasbourg if Jorgensen does end up leaving.

Chelsea are fighting on four fronts in the Premier League, Champions League, Carabao Cup and will play in the FA Cup and there's a feeling further fixtures will give Jorgensen an opportunity to play.

Jorgensen has his sights on next summer’s World Cup with Denmark.
