Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers met with reporters on Wednesday, and the big topic was his left-wrist injury, which could keep him out of Sunday’s tilt against the Chicago Bears. Rodgers told reporters, including ESPN’s Brooke Pryor, that he will attempt to practice on Thursday after not practicing today.
He also said that his goal is to get more comfortable taking snaps under center with the injury, as right now he said he’s more comfortable out of the shotgun.
Aaron Rodgers did not practice Wednesday, but he says he’s going to try to practice tomorrow.
Says it’s more comfortable to take snaps in the shotgun right now, but goal is be able to take them under center.

Per Tom Mead’s offensive charting, the Steelers have had Rodgers under center for 185 snaps this season while he’s been in shotgun for 386 snaps. While the Steelers could tailor the offense to have him in shotgun even more, they won’t play him if he’s not comfortable taking snaps under center. It’s only Wednesday and with a few more days to work and potentially practice, while also finding a comfortable brace, there’s certainly a chance that Rodgers will feel comfortable enough by Sunday. But that’s a big hurdle he’s going to have to clear to avoid missing a game.
Rodgers seems motivated to get back onto the field and play, and Mike Tomlin was adamant that if the doctors feel he can go and Rodgers feels ok from a pain-management perspective, then he will start on Sunday. The good news is that the injury is to his non-throwing hand, but being able to handle the ball and take snaps is something he’s going to need to show. Given that the Steelers’ offense has been primarily with Rodgers in shotgun, it won’t be a huge change if they end up playing more from the gun, either.
Tomlin had already ruled out Rodgers out of practice for today and said that Friday would be key for him to see if he’s able to go on Sunday. If he’s also able to practice tomorrow in some form, that will be a positive development for his chances to suit up against the Bears, a team he’s dominated during his career. It’s a game Rodgers will want to play in given his success against Chicago and to relive some of the rivalry he’s had with the Bears from his time with the Green Bay Packers, but he has to prove he’s comfortable and healthy enough to do so.
The next two days of practice and being able to find the right brace will be key, but there’s a real chance Rodgers is under center for the Steelers on Sunday.
