Shedeur Sanders: ‘None of my jewelry’ got taken in the burglary at his suburban Cleveland home

BEREA, Ohio — While the Browns are hoping they found a diamond in the rough with Shedeur Sanders, Sanders, is just happy to still have his diamonds.

If he lives up to his Legendary nickname Sunday against the Raiders, he’ll be able to wear his diamond-encrusted pendant of the same name to celebrate.

That’s because the three masked thieves that broke into his Cleveland-area home during the Browns 23-16 loss to the Ravens on Sunday didn’t make off with any of his many diamond chains among the $200,000 worth of property they stole.

“I know this is a trending topic that my house got broken into, but I am in a mental space now to where it’s not too much that could phase me honestly, that’s going on,” he said. “And none of my jewelry got took anyway, so by the way, none of my jewelry got took. So now it’s just caught slippin’. It happens.”

Medina County sheriff’s deputies said the thieves entered the home through an unlocked door around 6:46 p.m. and left around 6:58 p.m. They didn’t say what exactly was taken, but noted the thieves stole things from Sanders’ nightstand and closet in his bedroom, and even overturned his pillows, the report shows.

They made off with “several high-value items,” police said. But much to Sanders’ relief, not his beloved bling.

Sanders also said of the break-in, “mentally, emotionally, I’m in a great place overall. In life, there’s always going to be adversity. Things aren’t always going to go as planned. I would say I’m prepared for everything.”

Asked where he’s grown the most over the past few months, he said, “I would say definitely, mentally, emotionally.”

Sanders, the Browns fifth-round pick out of Colorado, will be the 42nd quarterback to start a game for the Browns since 1999, and the 18th rookie. The first 17 have all lost their starting debut. He also the 13th starting quarterback in Kevin Stefanski’s six seasons.

But Stefanski, who’s spent a lot of one-on-one time with Sanders in his office going over his practice tape from the day before, isn’t concerned about the break-in being a distraction.

“The authorities are on that,” Stefanski said. “Shedeur is very focused on the task at hand.”

If all goes as the Browns hope, Sanders will sparkle in Vegas, even without the jewelry.
